1. Last Friday afternoon, we headed over to Hiatt Middle School to host a Summer Kickoff. We sent over 600 invitations home in the mail with kids to invite their families & had over 200 show up day of. The purpose was to connect families with summer programs and other resources & also make it a fun environment. I went down the bouncy slide and learned that I should never do that again at this age.
2. It felt like Saturday was all about Des Moines in so many ways. There was the Dam to Dam, Brewfest, Food Truck Throw Down, LAUNCH at Water Works, the Moonlight Classic and so forth. It was a busy weekend with the best of people involved at all points. I continue to love this city a little more every day; there’s so much intentional community building happening that my heart swells.
3. I’ve done a handful of things this week that involve randomly getting together with people. From crafting, to hot tubbing, to eating and drinking to card gaming, I appreciate the well-rounded approach to fully enjoying summer. Plus, I better soak it up now since grad school starts on Monday.
5. First Parks Pop Up Yoga DSM event happened and over 60 people came. The environment at Greenwood Park was very peaceful. Other than hearing the voice of the instructor, we were surrounded by flowing water, birds chirping and big, beautiful trees. I was pleased to see the turnout was so high.
