1. Sustainable Sweethearts happened and we easily had over 150 people show up at the Botanical Garden! Are you kidding me? Our focus was on helping people identify their project ideas and connect them with the people and resources to get it done. Other parts included a fun photo booth with hanging hearts, a dance floor (DJs were high school students so there were plenty of Tay Swift songs) and tons of resources on tables. I had a great time, others had a great time, so expect to see it happen in the future.
2. It was good news week for Emily. We got $2,500 to fund projects with youth in the neighborhoods, we got permission to start looking at public art opportunities on grain elevators, we met an ambitious Latino business owner who wants to invest in the corridor, we are launching a really impactful housing/health project (more deets on that later) and new partnerships with the Viva East Bank initiative are blowing up left and right. I can’t believe the people I get to work with, the projects I get to do and the amount of energy behind this effort. And to think I was just emailing 87 Central about making a logo for this thing. BOOM. Explosion. #joblove
3. Julie came to town on Wednesday and we went shopping! For the love of all things, she took me to all my favorite stores and helped me build my professional wardrobe. I’m always thankful for her excitement to see me succeed in life and she knows this girl’s nonprofit budget doesn’t always allow for “investment” pieces as seen below in the J.Crew skirt. <3 Thanks, Julie.
4. Cute cat alert.
5. Did you read about ALL THE THINGS HAPPENING IN DES MOINES? REI is coming, Ed Sheeran announced his show in DSM, we are getting another music festival in July, Windsor Heights is looking at putting in protected bike lanes, people are getting jobs and having interviews and and and… it continues. It’s a good time to call this city home.
