I never dreamed about marriage as a young girl. It seemed kind of cool, but I wasn’t out there secretly pinning dresses or colors, or dreaming of the big day.
So when the actually planning came for the wedding, I knew I wanted to keep it simple, fun, and meaningful. We chose downtown Des Moines because it’s where we met and it’s where we are rooted.
Here’s a glimpse of our amazing day, June 10, 2017.
Z and the guys got ready at our condo in Sherman Hill after a morning of basketball.
The ladies spent the morning at the downtown farmers market and then got ready for the day in the hotel room at Embassy Suites.
While my mom and I got ready in the bedroom, the ladies waited out in the main room for me. Going out to see them was one of the highlights of the morning. Just look at their faces!
Around 1 p.m., we had our first look near the DM Police Department. Zach eagerly awaited while I shimmied my way into the Embassy vehicle.
I love how Graham captured this moment. I was so nervous!
Then we took some artsy coupley pics. 😉
Didn’t these flowers turn out amazing?
After a few pics, we headed to meet the wedding party by the Armory and then took a quick peek at the Skating Plaza to see what magic the team created!
Zach got all the guys a pair of socks for the wedding.
Our bus gave us a quick ride down to the Botanical Garden and our immediate families walked down the bike path for a few family photos. It was sooo windy.
Meanwhile, all the decor was getting the final touches and soon enough, guests were starting to arrive for the ceremony.
Ushers gonna ush.
Z got to walk my grandma, his grandma, his mom, and my mom down the aisle. <3
And then here I came in all my tulle down the aisle with Bob. What a moment.
We kept our ceremony pretty short. We had Zach’s cousin read a poem, did a ceremonial tree planting, said our own vows, and said “I do!” as we walked down the aisle to Crazy in Love by Queen B.
The wedding party took a walk over to the Iowa Taproom and Zach and I hopped in a pedicab that took us through Pride Festival, while our guests enjoyed pounds and pounds of cheese.
After a couple drinks there, we headed back for grand entrances.
Our ushers pulled a little joke on us. 😉
Grandma Meyer prayed for us and then dinner was served, tapas style while the Steele & Meyer family attempted HUGE family photos!
And finally… dancing.
With a surprise to my dad of course… 😉
And right before sunset, we snapped a picture of us having the most amazing day of our lives!
This day couldn’t have been possible without our amazing family all the supportive friends in our lives. What a remarkable day. <3
