Have you heard of a B Corporation before?
“B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.”
Typical corporations have one bottom line: profit.
B Corporations have a triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit.
These are the businesses that are making significant impacts on the way business is done. They’re conscientious of the environment, social impacts, and the bottom line. B Lab, a nonprofit organization, helps determine the companies that qualify to be considered a B Corp. There are only 2,100 businesses to date with that certification, which is a huge honor!
If you’re conscientious about where your dollars are going and what they are ultimately supporting, consider purchasing from B Corps. You can find a list here.
Some of my favorites are: Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia, and Beautycounter.
Consider your purchases a “vote.” Every time you buy something from a business, you’re ultimately supporting the way that company does day-to-day business. There’s more and more information out there as to what companies stand for.
No business is perfect, but there are many progressive options… ones trying to move the needle for change while still making a profit.
