I was reading this blog post called 10 Ways You’re Making Your Life Harder Than It Has To Be and number one instantly grabbed my attention.
You ascribe intent.
Or in other words, you take things personally. Someone doesn’t email you back. You don’t get invited for dinner. Someone budged in line.
You assigned bad intent to these otherwise innocuous actions.
I see this less and less as I get older, but it still weaves into my daily thoughts.
“Why can she do all of these things, yet can’t get that one task done for our event?”
It’s silly and totally a waste of mental space. Ascribing intent to someone’s decisions or non-decisions essentially says we know why someone did or did not do something. And that why
probably definitely has to do with you.
This was a good reminder for me to let things roll off my back a bit more.
